Another absence followed by some Moomin photos - you know what to expect from me!

moomin mug inspired: inspector
Here's another little Moomin post for you! I got these yellow roses at the beginning of the summer (uh, yes, partly so that I could take these photos - that's just what I'm like these days!) so they don't look like this anymore, but there's still some new buds coming in. I'd hoped the roses would bloom again for my birthday (today!) but that didn't happen and we might have to wait until early September. And do you know who else is very much into roses? The Inspector from the Moomins!

moomin mug inspired: dark yellow
Hello. We'll see if this post leads up to more regular posting or even occasional blogging! I was going to post this on Tove Jansson's and Moomin's Day (09/08) but had issues adding photos which did make me rethink whether or not trying to get back to this is a good idea. But I do want to! So here we are, a couple of weeks later.

moomin mug inspired: snow lantern
"Until at last he saw that it was an ordinary candle, thrust steadily upright in the snow. Around it stood a small sugar-loaf of a house, built of round snowballs. ... On the other side of the lamp someone had dug herself a cosy hole, someone who lay looking up at the serene winter sky and whistling very softly to herself."

rettig palace
In the spring (so, a long time ago - yikes) I visited this exhibition on the Rettig Palace for its 90th anniversary. The palace is where the Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova museum is located nowadays, but it used to be the home - "palace" - of the von Rettig family. I'd already been interested in learning more about the palace and the Rettigs, so this was perfect!

nivala in the summer
I didn't do anything spooky for Halloween, but here's some graveyard pictures (plus other things than graveyards) for this season. These are actually from the summer, and cemeteries and graveyards are perfect any time of the year, but they also seemed appropriate for Halloween/All Saint's.

moomin mug inspired: snorkmaiden
"... the Snork Maiden frisked in and out between trees picking flowers to match whatever mood she happened to be in, and putting them behind her ears."

moomin mug inspired: midsummer
"While the fire slowly died down to a glow and the morning breeze lazily drifted over the grass, the Snork Maiden and the Fillyjonk gathered their secret nosegays."

moomin mug inspired: spring winter
Hi. It's me. Yet another month later. And because it is a month later, it certainly is proper spring and not spring winter now. 'Spring winter' isn't even a real term in English but it is in Finnish and it's the name of this Moomin mug. Spring winter, quite obviously, can be either late winter or early spring which basically looks like these pictures; there's still lots of snow but it's also really sunny and it's getting warmer. And I suppose it makes sense there's no word for such an in-between season when this is definitely not what spring looks like in most places.

moomin mug inspired: snow horse
The snow is slowly melting over here in Finland and it should technically be spring now, but it is decidedly still winter. At least in Lapland. So here's more wintry Moomin scenes.

moomin mug inspired: moominmamma
It's all my favourite things yet again; Moomins, vintage, sewing. None of which there can be too much of in this world. (Yes, there can, but there isn't too much of them in my life!) This time I'm dressed up as Moominmamma and trying my best to be as gentle and as patient as her - characteristics that I would not perhaps normally choose first when actually describing myself.

hermanson and åström
I mentioned visiting both Hermanson's and Åström's at the end of last year, and finally here's some more pictures from back then. A little mixture of mid-century Sweden and 19th century Finland. Although Haparanda (where Hermanson's is) and Tornio (where Åsröm's is) are basically the same city that just happens to be divided into two countries. I feel like I say this every time I write about this part of the world but you truly don't even notice you're abroad.

moomin mug inspired: light snowfall
You may have already seen this mug in some of my Project 365 posts as it's the newest and most favourite addition to my collection and obviously had to be the next one in this series. I knew I was getting the mug for Christmas so I actually took these pictures before owning the mug (apart from the ones with the mug in, obviously!).
