forum marinum in turku

Another Turku attraction/museum I've liked is the maritime museum, Forum Marinum. I mostly heard about it because my uncle has worked on ships and has also donated some things to the museum. Other than that my opinions on the place are not at all biased (haha)!

If you don't like maritime things, then maybe maritime museums and the Forum Marinum aren't for you. That's okay. But I've always been fascinated by the sea, ships, sailors, pirates and the romanticized side of all that. And I also enjoy learning about the less romanticized things and the real histories of everything. So maritime museums are cool in my book. (Just like all museums, to be honest.) Forum Marinum has a lot of interesting ships and other maritime things, the exhibitions were all truly beautiful in my opinion. As it is located next to the river and the harbour, they also have bigger ships on the river that you can visit. Unfortunately, my visit was in the winter season, so all but one of the ships were closed. But that gives me a reason to go again! Not living quite right next to the water, I sometimes forget that Turku is such a port city (the oldest and possibly most important in Finland). Forum Marinum is definitely a place where you're reminded of that and that side of the city's history. And I do love to learn.

So, here's some pictures from the museum. I just love museums and have soon visited most of them in Turku! How about you, are maritime museums your thing and does Turku seem an appealing destination to you?

What a lovely museum! I feel the same - I love all things relating to the sea. I feel spoiled living in the PNW! Everyone is a sailor here.

I'm kind of the opposite. I do love museums but I don't particularly like maritime or nautical types. I don't know why but they just don't interest me. But put me on a boat in the ocean and I am all for it hahaha!

Amanda Aude - it really is hard not to love the sea and all things related! and that sounds lovely, hen! xx

sonia - oh yes, pet, i'd agree that being on or near the sea is definitely better than any museum about it! and i do understand not being interested in them as i certainly can't pinpoint what it is that makes them so fascinating to me, haha! xx

Miguel Gouveia - thanks, pal! xx

Laura Jane Atelier - it certainly was that, lady! and the globe really is great! xx
