take me back into that sweet sweet melody
Here's a few more things I did during the summer, but also things that are still continuing. I grew some tomatoes again, but I left my mum's before they ripened and only got to eat one. Apparently there's been plenty of them and my mum's been giving them away to her neighbours and people at her work. So even though I couldn't enjoy them myself, that's quite nice. Home-grown tomatoes are pretty much at the top of my list of things I love. Squirrels are quite high up as well, their little faces just make me happy. There's so many squirrels living near my mum's house, out of which I learned to recognize three. I spent a lot of time feeding and stalking them. I'm unnecessarily obsessed, but they are just so cute.

thursday thoughts pt. 39
If you didn't already know it, I love Tolkien, not least for The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. And I do feel like I am a hobbit as well. Apart from smoking a pipe, this is a description of me. And if I did smoke, I would most likely be a tit smoking a pipe, haha! And to make up for the fact that I don't smoke, I am instead quite short and would maybe pass for a hobbit? I think so.
Anyone else beyond excited for The Hobbit? I cannot wait! :---)

mymble dress
Dress - Vintage/Diy
Shoes - Gift from le sister
Socks - Primark
Earrings - Stolen off mama
This is yet another dress that I really love but don't wear that often. I've gathered it round the back, but if I wanted to I could still undo the stitching and let it be in full length. I think one day I'll do that, but now I'm still happy with the way it looks at the moment. I didn't remember that it was quite this short, but I don't find it to be too short. (At least from my point of view..) I'm sure I've said this before but the dress was sewn by my aunt in the 70's after which it's been worn by my mum and now me. Clothes with stories behind them are somehow so much nicer to wear. As if they have more memories about them. If you never watched the Moomins in your childhood (or adulthood), you won't know what I'm on about, but anyway. This dress reminds me of the episode where Mymble finds a supposedly diamond ring, tries to be fancier than she is and makes a new dress out of Moominmamma's floral curtains. That's what I think about when I'm wearing this. I do love the dress and the floral print, but at the same time it feels a bit old-lady-like. In a good way, you know?

pallas
Sorry about the absolute photo dump, I couldn't choose which photos I liked best, ha! These are all from the Pallas area in Lapland, which is actually the most northern part of Lapland I've ever been to. (I'd love to go further up and cross the boarder to Norway as well!) We went in the end of August, and the leaves were only just turning colourful for ruska. It was all kinds of lovely. I swam (even though the water was around +10°C!), took loads of photos and even went for a few hikes. (People who know me in real life would actually never believe me if I said I hiked, as everyone thinks I'm so lazy and inactive, haha. My high school P.E. teacher also thought I developed a bad attitude towards sports as I grew older. I actually used to be really into sports until I was around 14, but most of my friends didn't know me back then and think I've always been a wee prick lazing around the house..) Most of the time when people ask me how it was growing up in Finland or something similar, I simply say it's orite. But it is beautiful. I like living away, it makes me appreciate things I had more:-)
Thinking of Finlandia this Independence Day, forever grateful for all the veterans and other brave people.

confessions, straws and berries
Playsuit - H&M
Here's a fact about me that you probably don't know as I don't think I've shared it: I go to church. I'm quite bad about going to church when I'm at uni, but in the summer I attended an hour of devotion in the evening quite a bit because it was at my favourite medieval church (where I used to work). Also, there's coffee and cakes afterwards, and if there's free food I'm sure to be there. The churchyard also has some wild strawberries growing around it, and we often go to see when they're ripe enough to be picked. Mine really are strawberries as well; I've got them on a straw. (That was awful, I'm going to go now.) Catch you later!

we've got to save the world, someone else may want to use it
More blueberry picking! And also, a lot of mushroom spotting. Roaming around in the forest is definitely one of my favourite things to do in autumn. Unlike the last time I was blueberry picking, I was actually appropriately dressed in my sweats. It is more practical to crawl on your knees to either find the best berries or to shoot the mushrooms when you aren't wearing a maxi dress, haha! Now while living in a bigger city at the moment, I am a true small town girl at heart, and sometimes I do miss living a 5 minute walk away from the forest. It is so pretty! And peaceful. Which one do you prefer the city or the countryside (or something in between)?

thursday thoughts pt. 37
This is a bit of a downer, but I still like it. (And hope you do, too!) I know I've said it before, but I do think sadness, hopelessness, being forlorn and heartbroken and so on can all be such beautiful feelings. This quote (that I cannot remember where I found, sorry if it's yours and I've not credited it at all..) is like that to me; beautiful in its sadness.
