happy last day of the year!

 Dress - Dorothy Perkins
Shoes - Gift
Necklace - Gift/Kalevala Koru
Coat - Still Young Vintage

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas like I did on my scrubby little street. (I didn't actually have my Christmas on the street, but you know.. I hate that the lighting would've been so pretty and the street is so vile.) I didn't actually get dressed up on Christmas Day, because for the first time I was a lazy wee one and stayed in my pyjamas all day. As well as on Boxing Day. To be honest, I had such a Christmas of a sloth and really enjoyed it. Lots of good food and films is how you should spend the holidays. I did, however, put this dress on on Christmas Eve and wore it to the midnight mass as well. Surely it's Christmassy enough paired with red shoes and a green coat.

Whether this year has been wonderful or woeful for you, I hope 2015 will be better!

Also, still P.S. Take a look at my giveaway if you so fancy!

don't be afraid you're already dead

You all should already know that I like my cemeteries and me doing some graveyard exploration shouldn't come as a surprise. There's always little details that you've overlooked even in cemeteries that you've already been to a dozen times. Or at least I find it is so. This time I found lots of pretty flowers among other things, and these are few of my favourites.

P.S. Don't forget to check out my giveaway if you live in the UK! :--)

family picnic at arboretum, pt. 2

I'm mildly sorry for the flower photo overload. I had the best time in the botanic garden learning to use my wee Canon a little better. I'm obviously still learning and it's all good. I intend to master this lens before getting too carried away and wasting all my money. I've always been into photographing the flora and it was pretty interesting to see how many different kinds of plants the Arboretum has. We actually were tipped by my mum's neighbour who said this was one of the best times to go to the garden. I have no other time of year to use as reference, but I think she was right and it really was a beautiful little family picnic/outing:-) You can see yesterday's post of the first part of our picnic here.

Hope you are and will all have the most magical wee Christmas♥!

P.S. Don't forget to check out my wee giveaway.

family picnic at arboretum, pt. 1

 Blazer&Headscarf - 2nd hand
Top - New look
Trousers - KappAhl
Shoes - Citymarket

As I'm not spending Christmas with my family, I thought I'd share these photos from the last time I saw a couple of these people related to me!

When me and my sister were at my mum's at the same time, we did a wee trip to Tornio where my family used to live before I was born. We visited this botanic garden and it was quite fun. And obviously we had a picnic, I think my family's quite big on picnics compared to others!

I could talk about my watermelon top forever, but I won't. I might try and find and purchase the matching skirt to it, though.. I got this blazer off a friend of my mum's, and am so happy about it. Most of my blazers are dark, so having a black&white one is a nice change and I really like the oversized fit, as well as the big pockets and pretty buttons. I have also bought a new pair of trousers (!). Once again I bought something for a purpose that isn't yet that topical. I figured these would be my "smart work trousers". I don't work. But maybe they'll be just as good as "hire me please trousers".

Also, don't forget to check out yesterday's post with a giveaway.

happy birthday dear blog (+ a giveaway)

Today this lil' blog of mine turns 4 and I cannot believe I've actually been blogging for that long. Or that you guys have actually been reading this for some of that time. Most years the date of this blogiversary has been forgotten about (ahem ahem) and hasn't been acknowledged in any way. I though I'd finally change that! After all I am quite proud to be a part of the blogging community that I have officially belonged to for 4 years now (not to mention the numerous years spent reading other people's lovely blogs before that), and am also very thankful for all of you for following, commenting and generally just being wonderful. You are all great.

So, here's a tiny giveaway for you! It's nothing special, just a few things that I myself have been enjoying lately. In the picture you can see a few Lush products, my favourite nail polish and lip balm at the moment, some sweets (that are Finnish, and I hope you'll like them, even though they might not be something you're used to, I don't know!) and some Moomin chewing gum so that you don't rot your teeth on my account.. There'll also be a couple of surprises added:-) Unfortunately, this is for UK residents only and here's how you can enter:

1. Follow summer violets. You can do that either by the Google Friend Connect or bloglovin', both of which you can find on the right hand column, just over there-->
2. Leave a comment (with a way of contacting you) on this post!
3. If you want to, tweet/instagram/post about/any of that about this giveaway and leave an extra comment saying you did so for an additional entry.

The winner will be randomly chosen on 05/01/15 at noon, so you'll have two weeks to enter. The winner will be then announced and contacted later that day:-) Hope this is something you like and maybe I'll do similar things in the future. Good luck to you all!

//EDIT The giveaway has now ended and the winner has been notified!

there's nothing to mourn about death any more than there is to mourn about the growing of a flower

 Hat - Vintage
Jumper - 2nd hand
Shorts - H&M
Shoes - Citymarket
Bag - Mama's old

My outfit does not go with my hat at all, but don't let that bother you. My sister and I got ourselves new vintage hats and I couldn't be more excited about anything. She will probably actually wear hers more often than I will, but I do not care at all. I have always wanted to have a mourning hat with a black veil, and now I do. I think this is more like a hat for a widower as the veil is so long and there's plenty of it. It is hand-made by someone and I haven't quite figured out how best to wear it yet. But I am almost excited for someone to die, just so that I can really wear it. (I'm awful, I know.) I was trying so hard to look sad in the photos (it might be coming across as ridiculous rather than sad..), and I really like the last one. That is such a good shot by my mum! I am so in love with my wee hat. Is this something you'd ever consider wearing, or is it too far? I'm becoming too much of a hat person these days. If that even can happen, I don't think you can be too much of a hat person.

I'm also quite excited about my jumper with ice skating cats (!) but I'll try and blog about that later! This post is all about hats.

thursday thoughts pt. 40

How true is this? You are not responsible for other people's feelings and you really should not bother yourself with worrying about what other people think about you.

i (still try to) make things

 Crop top - Self-made
Trousers - 2nd hand/KappAhl
Shoes - Citymarket

Ahh, it has been forever since I last sewed something. I miss my sewing machine when I'm away from it, ha. This top is actually one of the only things I've made this year. This whole year. I had leftover fabric from this dress and as soon as I'd finished the dress, I knew I wanted to make a crop top too. It took me long enough to start and finalize this idea, but once I actually started sewing this was rather a quick project. The back isn't quite as nice as I wanted it to be, but if I have to I can adjust the toggle buttons later if I need to. Two of them are quite tight and one of them a little too loose. I hadn't realized I didn't have much seam allowance which resulted into a tiny bit smaller top than it could have been. I do like the idea I had for the crop top with the toggle buttons and everything, but I must admit that it looks better from the front. Though, the back also looks better in person. I promise.
